My top 10 Essential Oil recipes to keep you and your family healthy!

Are you worried about staying healthy this cold & flu season because of that nasty virus going around? (I won’t mention her name, but it’s one of my favorite beers ;)

One of the best ways to up the ante against germs is Essential Oils. Essential Oils, also known as EOs, can be used for everything from wellness to sleep, anxiety, weight loss and more!

I’m sharing my top 10 Essential Oil recipes that help keep our family healthy and well-rested. These EOs can be diffused, applied directly to the body, and in some cases even ingested!

I want to stress that it’s very important to make sure you’re using high-quality EOs, especially on young children or if you plan to ingest them. I use DoTerra, but there are other great manufacturers such as Young Living. If you’re interested in purchasing any DoTerra products or any of the rollerball recipes listed below, reach out to me at sara@theyogimomma.com or leave a comment below and I’ll be happy to help you! Rollerballs premixed and made with love are $20 each plus delivery charges. DoTerra Oils are prices as listed on the DoTerra Website.

My Top 10 Essential Oil Recipes:

Immune Support- Need a little boost this fall/winter? Here’s a first-rate recipe we use every fall thru spring. We put this blend on the bottoms of our feet every morning before school, although this year things look a little different since we’re homeschooling. During cold and flu season we additionally put this on our spines and chest. If you are getting sick or already sick, apply this three times a day to the bottoms of your feet, chest and spine.

16 drops Breathe, 12 drops OnGuard, 8 drops Oregano, 8 drops Tea Tree, 8 drops Frankincense, 3 drops Lemon in a rollerball and fill to top with Fractionated Coconut Oil (FCO).

Tick/Insect Repellant- Ticks are BAD this year, and since we’ve all been spending more time outdoors, this is a keeper. I find that it works just as well as some OTC formulas that have DEET in them. You will have to reapply it more frequently then regular bug spray, but it smells amazing and contains no harmful chemicals.

½ cup white vinegar or witch hazel, ¼ cup distilled water, 20 drops Eucalyptus, 20 drops Lemongrass, 10 drops citronella, 10 drops Lavender in glass spray bottle.

Sleep- Couldn’t we all use a better night’s sleep? This is the recipe that got Hawkins FINALLY sleeping through the night at two years old. We still use it today when traveling to make sure everyone gets a good night’s rest.

15 drops Lavender, 10 drops Vetiver, 8 drops Roman Chamomile, 5 drops Frankincense, 5 drops Ylang Ylang, 5 drops Wild Orange in a roller bottle and fill to top with FCO. I also recommend diffusing this blend in your bedroom at night.

Allergies-  Fall is almost here, and so are seasonal allergies. These oils can also be applied to the skin or taken internally. DoTerra sells an allergy capsule called TriEase that’s a great addition to your allergy protocol. I take TriEase every AM/PM during allergy season. To learn more about TriEase click here.

15 drops each of Lavender, Peppermint, Lemon in a rollerball, fill it to the top with FCO. You can also add these oils in equal parts to a diffuser and diffuse throughout your home, your house will smell great, too!

Stress/Anxiety- This blend is great for stress and anxiety, something we all have a bit more of these days, huh?! Apply this to the bottoms of your feet, wrists and on the back of the neck. (I’m about to put some of this on before I head to the dentist).

15 drops each of Balance drops & Serenity in a rollerball, topped with FCO.

Germ killing hand wash- 2 tablespoons of Dr. Bronner’s, 1 tsp coconut oil, 10 drops OnGuard oil in a foaming soap pump bottle, fill to top with water and shake. You can use other EO”s besides OnGuard. I typically use OnGuard in our household to help fight bacteria & viruses. I keep a bottle of this soap at every sink in house!

Fevers- Fevers are a necessary thing to help the body fight off offenders, but sometimes when they get too high we need some assistance. One thing we have found that helps keep fevers down is to add 15-20 drops of Peppermint oil to a rollerball and top it off with FCO. We put this on the bottoms of feet, spine and the back of the neck every 15 minutes when fevers are spiking.

Upset Tummy/Indigestion- Another blend from DoTerra is DigestZen, and it’s the bomb! We use it frequently for car sickness, upset tummy and indigestion. I typically add about 20 drops to a rollerball and fill the remainder with FCO. But you can make this stronger or weaker as desired. DigestZen also comes in soft gel capsules. I’ll usually take one DigestZen capsule and put DigestZen oils on my stomach if I’m not feeling well.

Lice- Tea Tree/Melaleuca is good to add to shampoo during lice season. Did you know that clean hair attracts lice more then dirty hair? Now your kids have a good excuse not to shower!

Congestion- As the winter months approach colds & congestion are a common symptom. Breathe is a great EO to use to open up nasal passages, help loosen chest congestion and assist in making you feel more alert and awake. Breathe can be diffused, applied to your chest and back, or just rub in your palms and inhale.

There are so many uses for EOs. If there’s something you’re looking for and can’t find or if I can help in any way please reach out to me at sara@theyogimomma.com or leave me a comment below!
